Use Apple Find My or Google Find Hub through an official channel to locate and protect the device. Contact the places where you last had it, keep account credentials private and confirm a safe release process before arranging collection.
Protect the device before organising its return
If your phone is missing in Lisbon, separate two jobs: protecting your accounts and finding out who may have the physical device. A local enquiry service can help with the second; you should remain in control of the first.
For an iPhone, Apple explains how to use Find My on another device or through iCloud to locate it and mark it as lost. Lost Mode locks the device and can show a message with contact details. Available features depend on the device and its settings.
For Android, Google’s Find Hub instructions cover locating, securing and erasing a missing device. Location may be approximate or unavailable; remote actions depend on the device’s settings and connectivity. Use the official instructions rather than a link sent by an unknown person.
Write down the last places you used it
Build a short timeline while the details are fresh. Include the last call, photo, payment or message you remember making, followed by the places you visited. This can narrow a broad search to a hotel room, reception desk, restaurant table or vehicle.
For a taxi or app-booked ride, use the journey record and the operator’s own support channel. For a hotel, give the booking name and stay dates. If the phone may have been left at the airport or onboard, follow the Lisbon Airport contact guide rather than sending every type of case to one office.
Give a description of the model, colour and case. Keep a distinctive identifying detail available for verification. Do not publish an IMEI, serial number, home address or screenshot showing sensitive information in an open group.
Treat a map location as a clue, not a collection plan
A location pin does not prove who has the phone or that a particular person has taken it. Do not enter private premises or confront someone because of a tracking result. If theft is suspected, contact the police and follow the device maker’s security guidance.
A person claiming to have found the phone should not need your account password, verification codes or remote access to your other devices. Do not remove account protection simply because a stranger says it is necessary for shipping. Verify the holder through a trusted contact route before sharing further information.
If you are considering erasing the device, read the manufacturer’s explanation of the consequences first. Recovery and data protection choices are yours; we do not need access to your Apple or Google account to make calls to a hotel.
If the correct phone is found
Confirm the holder, reference number and release requirements. Ask whether an authorised collector is permitted and what the holder needs to verify ownership. If possible, verify the case, model or another feature without asking anyone to unlock the phone.
For return abroad, disclose the battery and any known damage before requesting transport. DHL’s electronics guidance explains why batteries and packing require attention. A device that appears swollen, damaged or unsafe needs specific carrier assessment; do not treat it as an ordinary parcel.
Our return shipping guide covers authorisation, packaging and quote details. Do not promise yourself a delivery date until the holder’s release process and the route have been assessed.
What Left in Lisbon can help with
We can assess local contact and follow-up requests with likely holders. Search assistance costs €30 for up to 3 agreed locations and 2 attempts per location over 3 business days, with a written update. It is a fee for the agreed work, not a guarantee that a phone will be found, recovered or delivered. Once that work is performed, an unsuccessful outcome alone does not make it refundable, subject to statutory rights.
If a holder already confirms the phone is available, ask for a collection and shipping quote instead. We cannot unlock devices, bypass security, access accounts or collect from restricted locations without the necessary permission.
Common questions
Can you locate my phone using its number?
We do not offer phone-number tracking or account access. Use the official Apple or Google tools yourself; we can assess calls and follow-ups with likely physical holders.
Can a recovered phone be shipped internationally?
Possibly, but the battery, condition, route and packaging need carrier approval. A recovered phone is not automatically eligible for every shipping service.
